PATIE MILLEN

I have lived in beautiful Southern Oregon since 1989. I am passionate about our beautiful valley. I love the surrounding mountains, nearby rivers and lakes, Oregon’s pristine forests and rich agricultural land. The people are salt of the earth. Friendly, kind, intelligent, creative, all the best attributes one could desire.

My 5-year-old daughter and I were living in Petaluma, above San Francisco. After the unexpected loss of my husband and her dad, we decided to start a new life and made the trip north to check out Ashland and explore some new towns. We loved Ashland immediately and bought our home the day we drove into town. I don’t expect everyone to act so fast, but at the time I was of the positive mindset that the first thing, may be the perfect thing. Indeed, it was.

I loved the town, Lithia Park the excellent schools, the natural beauty and that it felt more like home than I had ever expected. I have heard this same statement from hundreds of clients over the years.

I had worked as a Financial Controller and VP at a private corporation in San Francisco and owned a camera graphics house in San Francisco with my husband Phil. I loved business from a young age and had always excelled at it. Several years after settling into our new home in Ashland I decided to enter real estate. I was forewarned by many that it was vastly competitive and that I might want to do something else. I felt confident I would enjoy it and became licensed in 1994. It was an opportunity to use my business and creative and marketing skills I had developed over the years. By 1997, 3 years later, I was the top selling agent in Ashland and #2 in the county, I had found my niche.

Southern Oregon has been very good to me and my family. I met my husband Rob Edwards in 2004 and we share a wonderful life. We share 5 children and 4 grandchildren. We live in the country, just outside of town, surrounded by 80 acres. It is beautiful. We work hard, have our hobbies – Rob loves cars and drag races his 67 Nova, which I always remind him means “doesn’t go” in Spanish. I enjoy art, writing, ping pong, skeet shooting and growing our business.

I feel blessed to have helped so many families, about 1000, to make Southern Oregon their home. I have sold to the third generation of several families and our past clients refer many of their friends and family members to us. It brings a deep heart felt sense of awe to witness them creating and living out their lives here, thriving in this wonderful area and to visit them year after year and witness their continuum of life – the new generations and life’s inevitable transitions. It is wonderful to have been a part of that.

My email byline by Mark Twain, sums my feeling up perfectly, as I witness life unfold in Southern Oregon: To us, our house was not insentient matter -- it had a heart, and a soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals and solicitudes and deep sympathies; it was of us, and we were in its confidence, and lived in its grace and in the peace of its benediction. Mark Twain
